Last week I interviewed the lovely Jennifer Main, Transformational Guide and bestselling author of ‘The Space Between’.

I was asking Jennifer about how we can protect ourselves from getting hurt, as sensitive introverts in business, and how we can get over our fears especially when going networking.

If you’re anything like me, going to a crowded networking event takes a lot of courage and energy, and for some of us it can often feel like a hurdle we just cannot leap.

When I spoke with Jennifer, there unfolded a fascinating conversation about the difference between barriers and boundaries and how we can feel good about doing scary things!

[Video] Are you anxious when people unsubscribe?

Are you anxious when people unsubscribe from your mailing list?

Do you feel like a failure and tell yourself that your content must be rubbish ?

It can feel really tough when you put your heart and soul into creating great content that you feel will be really useful for your ideal clients.

You spend a long time creating just the right tone and quality, and including the just the right number of useful snippets.

You pluck up courage to send it out and then …

Bam …

You immediately get people unsubscribing – deleting you from their inbox and banishing you forever more into oblivion.

It hurts, I know, but it doesn’t have to crush you, and actually it’s a really good thing!

No need to feel anxious – Watch my video on what the real lesson is when people unsubscribe: –

I’ve noticed the more content I put out into the world, the more I get people unsubscribing, and now I actually celebrate when it happens.

It shows me that I’m getting bolder in putting out more of ‘me’ into my message, and as I get clearer on what my message is, and begin to share that with the world, the more I’m becoming a ‘beacon’ – guiding my ideal people to want to learn more from me.

(And I know that I’m not right for everyone, and I’m really ok with that!)

Take heart, that when people unsubscribe, you are showing up in just the right way for your ideal clients to say YES to you.  (And you know that because those who are NOT right for you are saying Goodbye by unsubscribing).

If you feel anxious when people unsubscribe, watch my video to hear what it really means:

When you’re first starting out in self employment, the whole issue of tax and accounting can be a big worry.

It might be one of those things that you leave to the very last minute, not getting clear information and just hoping you’ll be able to figure it out at some point ‘later’.

I want to introduce you to Rosie Slosek, who brings order and calm to all those of us who are anxious and worried about tax and accounting. She’s down to earth, explains things in clear, simple English and is a mine of useful information (she’s also fun and loves cake!)

I interviewed Rosie to get some answers to questions that might be useful for you if you’re just starting in business (in the UK).

You’ll find the answers to the following puzzles:

  • Do you need to be earning money before you’re in business? How to know whether you’ve started ‘trading’.
  • How to know if you’re a sole trader or a company.
  • What records do you have to keep when you’re first starting out in business?

attracting clients

What are the foundations you need to have in place for you to start attracting clients to your service business ?

Once you’ve figured out who you’re trying to reach, what they’re struggling with and what they’d be prepared to PAY for help with, then you can move on to creating your online foundations to start attracting clients.

Building foundations will enable you to gather a community of people around you who love what you do, and who also buy from you and recommend you to their friends.

I’m going to share with you 3 things that you must have in place to attract and nurture people who will eventually want to BUY from you.

Do you ever feel the pressure to be ‘out there’ on social media?

– Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linked In (not to mention Blab and Periscope … if you don’t know what they are don’t worry, I’m not sure either!) ?

Do you spend a lot of time and energy wondering what to put on your Facebook business page, and look at others who post several times a day with engaging content, and feel inadequate because you’re not keeping up ?

We’re told we have to be active, be seen, create content, engage with people.

We end up chasing Likes and Follows, and Shares – and we think we’re making progress – it feels good to have people engaging with our content, and it feels really productive.

But here’s the truth.

How To Think Like A Business Owner (and stop giving your time away for free!)

Think Like A Business Owner(don't give your time away free!)_optThink like a business owner – be selfish with your time and energy !

This week I’ve created a video!

How to say No when friends and family keep asking for your help, for free.

How you can protect your boundaries, think like a business owner, and reserve your time and energy for productive business building tasks, that will actually bring you paying clients!

You became self employed because you want to help people with your skills and experience

But you also want to get paid.

When you’re just starting out it’s tempting to help out friends with your skill, especially if it’s a ‘talking’ skill like coaching or counselling.

It’s good to let people experience what a difference your work makes, and it’s good practice for you.

But when the months (maybe years?) go on and you’re still providing this skill for free to friends and family – you’re potentially wasting a lot of your time, that could be spent attracting real paying clients.

It’s important to be selfish with your time and energy, especially as an introvert – because we tend to get drained more easily.

How To Shrink Your Mountains Into Molehills

mountains into molehills

Do you have projects or tasks that keep slipping down your To Do list?

Are you putting these off because you’re scared?

It’s ok to admit it, we all get scared – it’s a big part of the solopreneur journey!

Yet the fear doesn’t have to stop you.

What if you could find a way to shrink those mountains into molehills?

In this week’s post I share a story of mine that shows how I did this in action!

I’d known for ages I wanted to promote my networking group, but I kept putting it off because I was scared to make the contacts I needed to make.

One day I decided to tackle it head on.

I’d done the research, I just needed to make a phone call.

And THAT was the scary thing ( ‘cos I thought I’d get tongue tied and sound like an idiot!)

I wrote notes on what I wanted to say.

I got clear in my head – I would just do this one small step.

Make the call.

Once I made the call, the whole thing was really simple, (and dare I say enjoyable – the people I spoke to were lovely, and really happy to help)

Watch the video to see how I did it, and to take up the challenge for yourself!!

Want To Break Free From Rules? – Be Yourself!

just be myself

It’s been a whole year since I created my first video blog,

and since then I’ve gone through a whirl of change and much progress, in terms of my confidence and my clarity of purpose and message in my business!

My first video, although terrifying to do at the beginning, was easy because I wasn’t talking about anything ‘useful’ – I was just talking about ‘nothing in particular’, and getting used to this strange new way of communicating and being visible!

I’ve taken lots of courses and training on how to write articles and how to create videos …. and they were great and I learned loads!

But I had a teeny problem in that I thought I had to do this ‘properly’, and that meant thinking of an important topic, writing a script and practising, and making sure there were no mistakes in the video!!

I wrote a blog last year about how refreshing it is to take on the possibility of ‘just doing video’ (instead of spending days writing an article).

It felt great to create that, and more videos after that, and yet I still felt ‘constricted’ in the videos I did produce.

My dream….to just be myself.

But wait, there’s more!
