Do you ever set yourself impossibly high standards and then give yourself a hard time because you haven’t lived up to them?

Well, I have… and this is the result I’m gonna’ share with you.

Watch the 2:53 minute video below!

I had said to myself that I wanted to do a Facebook Live everyday.

That was my high goal.

When it came to it,  the inspiration for something meaningful and valuable had not come to me.

And I was wasting time…

You know, racking my brains and then tuning in and trying to get something from my heart and it still wasn’t working.

I was beating myself up saying,

“You’ve got to do this”,

“You said you would do this, so, you have to do it.”

And what I actually did was I just let go of that.

I thought to myself, if the inspiration hasn’t come then I’ll just leave it.

I’m gonna just put it to one side.

Maybe I won’t do it once a day and that’s fine.

And then I got on with something else.

As I started to work on something else, having let go of that pressure, something just popped in.

And this is it. This is the valuable piece.

How often do we beat ourselves up, because we haven’t done what we said we would do?

I am hugely guilty of that.

I wonder if that’s you too?

How could you be easier on yourself?

What could you let go of…?

…. To make life easier, to make your work and your business easier?

What can you let go of?

And how can you let the lightness and freedom back into your business?

That’s my question for you and I would love to hear your answer so please do let me know!

Over to you:

Do you ever set yourself impossibly high standards? What can you let go of, to make way for more lightness and freedom in your business?

Could lack of safety be losing you clients?

safety

I knew this business owner was fun, friendly and really good at what he did.

I was curious to find out more and suspected that I’d find his work really useful, but I couldn’t quite bring myself to arrange the call.

Every time I thought about talking to him, I got another round of internal chatter about why that wasn’t a good idea.

I told myself:

“I won’t know what to say”

“I can’t quite put into words what I’m struggling with, and I don’t know what to ask so I don’t want to waste his time”.

“He might try to sell to me and I won’t be able to get out of it.”

“I’ll feel awkward and I won’t know how to end the conversation.”

Out trickled an endless stream of my own ‘stories’.

It ended up with me not contacting someone who could quite possibly have helped me with something in my business.

Do you recognise yourself in this scenario?

Can you understand how someone might feel that way?

But wait, there’s more!

As as introvert in business, the idea of going to a networking event can often fill us with dread ….

Thoughts might be swirling around our brain such as…

What will I say to people?

Will I look stupid?

Will I get overwhelmed ?

Will anyone be interested in what I do?

In this 3 minute video I share with you a simple exercise you can do to take the pressure off, and allow you to change your state to one that is more empowering, in the moment.

Whatever state you want to be in (eg confident, relaxed, motivated, energised), you can use this exercise to bring back the memory of a time when you were feeling that really strongly, and use that memory in the present moment.

But wait, there’s more!

As a heart-centred business owner, it’s easy to get swept away with the idea of making a difference in the world, and forget about actually making a profit.

I interviewed Helen Monaghan, finance coach and best selling author of Successful Business Minds, about what it really takes to make a business work, and how we can deal with our ‘money stuff’, so that we can create a business and a life that we love.

[Video Interview] The Difference between Barriers and Boundaries (and how to feel good about doing scary things!)

Last week I interviewed the lovely Jennifer Main, Transformational Guide and bestselling author of ‘The Space Between’.

I was asking Jennifer about how we can protect ourselves from getting hurt, as sensitive introverts in business, and how we can get over our fears especially when going networking.

If you’re anything like me, going to a crowded networking event takes a lot of courage and energy, and for some of us it can often feel like a hurdle we just cannot leap.

When I spoke with Jennifer, there unfolded a fascinating conversation about the difference between barriers and boundaries and how we can feel good about doing scary things!

[Video] Are you anxious when people unsubscribe?

Are you anxious when people unsubscribe from your mailing list?

Do you feel like a failure and tell yourself that your content must be rubbish ?

It can feel really tough when you put your heart and soul into creating great content that you feel will be really useful for your ideal clients.

You spend a long time creating just the right tone and quality, and including the just the right number of useful snippets.

You pluck up courage to send it out and then …

Bam …

You immediately get people unsubscribing – deleting you from their inbox and banishing you forever more into oblivion.

It hurts, I know, but it doesn’t have to crush you, and actually it’s a really good thing!

No need to feel anxious – Watch my video on what the real lesson is when people unsubscribe: –

I’ve noticed the more content I put out into the world, the more I get people unsubscribing, and now I actually celebrate when it happens.

It shows me that I’m getting bolder in putting out more of ‘me’ into my message, and as I get clearer on what my message is, and begin to share that with the world, the more I’m becoming a ‘beacon’ – guiding my ideal people to want to learn more from me.

(And I know that I’m not right for everyone, and I’m really ok with that!)

Take heart, that when people unsubscribe, you are showing up in just the right way for your ideal clients to say YES to you.  (And you know that because those who are NOT right for you are saying Goodbye by unsubscribing).

If you feel anxious when people unsubscribe, watch my video to hear what it really means:

But wait, there’s more!

How to speed up your writing process and reveal more of YOU in your marketing

writing processDoes your writing process take a long time, as you anxiously censor what you write in your blogs or social media posts?

Do you worry what other people might think if you reveal some hidden secret, or reveal something that’s not ‘freshly washed and ironed Sunday best’?

Do you find that your writing process includes a  ‘cleansing element’ as you try to get rid of anything that might cause people to ‘not like you’?

I had an experience recently that illustrates this issue perfectly.

I’m re-reading a book that I’d read many years ago called Conversations with God (Book One), and finding it so powerful and enlightening. I knew the gems within it should be shared more widely so that other people could learn from this amazing writing.

Then I stopped myself and thought:

Hmmm, I’m not sure I can share that, people might think I’m weird, reading a book about talking to God, (and I imagined my daughter saying “Who does that???” )

Then I got to thinking … actually spirituality is really important to me, and I’d like spiritual books and teachings to be more prevalent in my life – so my life is enriched and not depleted by mindless rubbish that’s so easily available on social media and on the internet.

Then I realised – it’s probably not just me who feels censored. But wait, there’s more!
